About the Journal

In an era where technological advancements increasingly intersect with human experiences, "Orange Technology" emerges as a pioneering paradigm dedicated to fostering warmth, compassion, and holistic well-being. Coined in the early 2010s by visionary researchers in Taiwan, Orange Technology draws inspiration from the color orange symbolizing vitality, empathy, and communal harmony to advocate for innovations that prioritize human happiness, health equity, and caring systems over mere efficiency or economic gains. Unlike green technology's environmental focus or red technology's high-speed pursuits, Orange Technology integrates interdisciplinary approaches from engineering, psychology, sociology, and ethics to create solutions that nurture emotional resilience, social connections, and inclusive care.

The urgency for such a field has never been greater. Global challenges, including aging populations in Asia and Europe, rising mental health crises amplified by the COVID-19 pandemic, and ethical dilemmas in AI deployment, demand technologies that heal rather than disrupt. For instance, the World Health Organization reports that over 970 million people suffer from mental disorders, underscoring the need for empathetic tech like AI-driven companionship tools or wearable devices for proactive health monitoring. Yet, despite vibrant discussions at forums like the International Conference on Orange Technology (ICOT), now in its 12th iteration, there remains a critical gap: a dedicated, high-impact journal to consolidate and propel this research forward.

"Orange Technology" journal addresses this void by serving as the premier platform for rigorous, innovative scholarship. As an open-access publication, it democratizes knowledge, encouraging global collaborations across academia, industry, and policy spheres. Our commitment to ethical standards, including COPE guidelines and open data mandates, ensures transparency and reproducibility. By publishing transformative studies from affective computing for emotional support to bio-inspired systems for community care we aim to elevate Orange Technology from niche concept to mainstream catalyst for societal progress. Join us in illuminating a future where technology truly warms the human spirit.

JOT aims to be a dynamic intellectual and research hub in Orange Technology, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities). Its focus areas include affective computing, positive computing, health and care technologies, human-robot interactions, ethical AI for well-being, bio-inspired warming systems, assistive technologies for aging and disabilities, emotional resilience tools, social connection platforms, and cross-disciplinary studies in humanistic tech applications. By fostering innovation and addressing societal challenges, JOT supports advancements in empathy-driven technological activities, contributing to sustainable human-centered development. The journal strives to enhance understanding and practices in Orange Technology and contribute to the broader discourse on the impact of compassionate technology on health policies, social equity, and global harmony.
